Crankworx Midweek update

So one of the biggest MTB events of the year is happening as we speak, Crankworx. Each year we see more and more events getting added to the event schedule, this year we saw it collaborate with the Enduro World Series too. We are going to give you a brief recap of the week so far.

Friday:

Fat Tire Crit:

There was only one event on the Friday and this was the Fat Tire Crit. The course was about 800 meters long, and took roughly 45 seconds to complete. The length of the course was determined by a time limit, the time was 20 minutes, plus an additional 3-5 laps.

Carl Decker was the man who managed to take the win, closely followed by Spencer Paxson. In the women’s race Jean Anne Berkenpas took the win.

Men’s:

1st – Carl Decker
2nd – Spencer Paxson
3rd – Greg Day

Women’s:

1st – Jean Anne Berkenpas
2nd – Leah Guloien
3rd – Brandi Heisterman

Full Results are here.

Saturday:

Speed and Style:

Here we have one of the more exciting and interesting races of the week, the race where riders that don’t usually get to compete against one and other battle it out, and it always provides for close competition. The Dual Style and Speed.

Results:

1st – Martin Soderstrom
2nd – Cam Zink
3rd – Kyle Strait

Sunday:

Enduro World Series:

Sunday saw the Enduro World Series roll into town, with the biggest names in Enduro racing paving the streets of Whistler. Crankworx kept the same racing format as the event they held at Crankworx Europe, which was that all the racing was held on one day.

Jared Graves finally managed to take his first victory in the EWS, even though he’s always been up there with the top guys, but he has had some bad luck, including punctures and mechanical issues, he finally managed a clean race and taken the win.

Tracy Moseley has been knocked off the top step by Anne Caroline Chausson, after her dominance in the EWS. Anne Caro is just getting back up to speed after a nasty injury in the first round of the EWS in Punta Ala.

Men’s Results:

1st – Jared Graves
2nd – Jerome Clementz
3rd – Jamie Nicoll

Women’s Results:

1st – Anne Caroline Chausson
2nd – Tracy Moseley
3rd – Cecile Ravenel

Tuesday:

Garbanzo DH race:

Tuesday saw the Garbanzo DH race, which is more of an Enduro stage than anything else. It’s a 7km course, with 3400′ vertical decent. The fastest time that anyone rode the track was 12:28.24.

The fastest man down the hill was Marcelo Gutierrez Villegas, just over 7 seconds faster than second placed Sam Blenkinsop.

In the women’s race Emmiline Ragot must have been feeding off her win at the weekend in the World Cup at Mont Sainte Anne, because she came here and smoked the opposition, almost 20 seconds up on her closest competitor, Claire Buchar.

Men’s results:

1st – Marcelo Gutierrez Villegas
2nd – Sam Blenkinsop
3rd – Remi Gauvin

Women’s results:

1st – Emmiline Ragot
2nd – Claire Buchar
3rd – Holly Feniak

Wednesday:

Wednesday saw more DH action, and also the Canadian Open XC race.

Air Downhill:

The Air Downhill is more of a ‘normal’ Downhill race in comparison to Tuesdays Garbonzo DH, they race down one of Whistler’s most iconic tracks, A Line. Which is a course littered with some of the most flowy jumps and berms in the world.

Stevie Smith takes the win in the men’s race continuing on from his World Cup win in Mont Sainte Anne, Stevie managed to take the win by just 1.77.

Men’s results:

1st – Stevie Smith
2nd – Mick Hannah
3rd – Nick Beer

Women’s results:

1st – Jill Kintner
2nd – Emmeline Ragot
3rd – Floriane Pugin

Canadian Open XC

The final round of the Canadian Open is intertwined into the Crankworx schedule, and what a race it was, Geoff Kabush and Max Plaxton were constantly battling it out to take the top spot, but in the end Geoff came out on top.

1st – Geoff Kabush
2nd – Max Plaxton
3rd – Spencer Pakinson

1st – Catherine Pendrel
2nd – Sandra Walter
3rd – Jean Anne Berkenpas

We’ll add the full results when we get them.

So this is pretty much where we are and about half way through Crankworx, but we’ve still got loads of exciting events coming up.
