It’s official – campervans are cool. And we’re not just talking about thirty year old VWs, either. They’re cool in a kind of unhurried, endearingly fragile kind of way, but modern stuff is cool in a highly-practical, all mod cons, able to actually get to places within finite time spans way.
All of which brings us to Cannondale’s announcement that its Cut DH racers are now supported by Globecar. Globecar is a brand of German manufacturer Poessl, well-known (in motorhome circles, anyway) for its high-end campervans.
As part of the deal, Mick Hannah, Chris van Dine and their technician Giacomo Angeli will travel to the UCI World Cup Races and other gravity events in a brand new Globescout van customized to their needs. Based on a Citroen Jumper van, the Globescout has a full-size bed, kitchen, toilet and the ever-useful hot shower. It might not have the sheer size of the big rigs often seen at the races, but it’s a heck of a lot more wieldy – we’ve reversed 30ft wagons through narrow gates out of muddy race sites and it’s not something that any right-thinking person would want to make a habit of.
“We are more than happy to work together with a brand like Globecar, as they listen to our needs and support us with the best vehicle for a successful racing season. We are looking forward to a long term partnership using each other’s knowledge and ways of communication in cross marketing activities,” said Daniel Hespeler, Brand Manager of MTB Teams at Cannondale.
“Our new Globescout helps us to be more efficient in our traveling and makes us able to focus more on what we love to do: race mountain bikes,” stated Mick Hannah, last year’s World Cup Round One Winner.
“Cannondale and Globecar fit together perfect, as both companies create their product with passion and know how. We were always impressed by the way Cannondale comes up with outstanding solutions to make cycling better. We have the same approach on the Campervan side, so cooperation can bring both of us even further,” Hans Hanusch at Globecar says.
