Cannock Chase Winter Classic – XC MTB Racing for all
Words: Organisation
Held as before on the popular area of Cannock Chase the events will once again be focused more towards the newbie or fun rider as we continue to support grass roots mountain biking racing. The events during 2013 sold out in many categories yet we’re not resting on the success. We’re looking on building to make the 2014 event better than ever.
So what has changed? Well as far as the races are concerned nothing much. Fat Bike & Single Speed was a big success for the summer event (2013) so that’s introduced for the Winter Format. We also had great success with the lower prices for the women’s race so we’ve stuck with it and kept them super low. Prices for ladies start at just £3.50. As always the course designers are working hard to come up with new fun sections to keep everybody tested to the max.
Tackeroo Campsite is once again the location for the racing, not only providing plenty of singletrack, twisty descents & lung busting climbs but also an array of opportunities and viewing spots for spectators to enjoy the day’s action. The atmosphere at the previous races are something that the organisers are very proud of and are keen to continue. There is a really great family fun feeling to the day helped along with support from a number of companies contributing to the overall day. These include Curley Photography, Per-Cup Coffee Company, Parkhill Farm Catering, TLC Creperie, plus sponsoring a selection of categories are Run & Ride’s official MTB training partner Chase Skills, plus Beer Babe & Muel Apparel. First Aid support will once again be supplied by Merlin First Aid.
Kids either looking to emulate Mom or Dad, or simply have a fun ride are also welcomed and catered for. During the middle part of the day there is a selection of races held, aimed at children of all ages (U10 – U18 categories). The youngest children will enjoy racing on part of the same course used by everyone, adding to the feeling of being part of the main day as a whole.
This race is now in its 3rd year and has sold out in many categories previously, entries are already coming in regularly so it’s recommended that you enter sooner rather than later. If you are a solo rider or ride regularly with a group of friends and would enjoy bragging rights this event is a great excuse to get the bike out and train (but have fun too!) through the winter.
