The annual British Cycling Awards Dinner was held at the Reebok stadium for the second year running and was, once again, a wonderfully upbeat celebration of the past season, as well as an opportunity to look forward to a very very bright future for the sport of cycling.
It is a great opportunity to honour our national champions, national series winners and international successes. In addition to the riders, it is also a chance to pay tribute to the unsung heroes, the people who work tirelessly for us cyclists; the volunteers, club officials, coaches and events organisers.
The award winners were introduced by multi-world champion pursuiter Hugh Porter. Over 100 awards were presented in three sections, to fit around dinner.
The greatest achievements were saved until last and after dessert ‘eight of the best’ cyclists in the UK were called up for awards and a quick chat with Hugh. It was fantastic to see that four of these were women and that they included the disciplines of downhill, BMX and track:
