The Dales and parts of the North York Moors are still locked down tight, but the bits in between just got a whole lot more rideable at last.
Thanks to Jez at MtbRoutes.com for the link to the Northumberland site but there have also been lots of openings in North Yorkshire too.
We haven’t had time to fish out the OS maps and get them all checked out, but it looks like a pretty comprehensive range of trails. We suspect that some of our dear farming friends may not have got round to re-adjusting their signs to welcome us back so here are the new official sign and access guidelines from the Northumberland site. If you have to, print them out and take them with you.
“Following recent Government guidance emphasising the extremely low risks of disease being spread through the use of public rights of way, the County Council is opening many paths in Northumberland. Path closures still apply in those areas still under restriction. Code of conduct notices for path users will be widely displayed.
A new system of signage is being introduced which will help the public clearly to understand which paths are safe to use and which remain closed.
GREEN ‘Code of Conduct’ notices will be posted in areas where paths are open.
RED ‘Path Closed’ signs will be displayed on all paths that remain closed, and these must be complied with.
YELLOW These signs are invalid from Saturday 23rd June onwards
The Code of Conduct states:
* If you handled cattle, sheep, goats or pigs in the last 7 days please do not access any other farmland
* Do not go near and never touch, handle or feed livestock
* Do not take dogs on land where there are cattle
* Do not leave any waste food or litter
* Stay on the path and leave all gates as you find them
* Use disinfectant where provided
* Ensure equipment, footwear and clothing is clean at the start of each walk or ride
