With the shortlists progressing for the first two tranches of Bikemagic Reader Awards, it’s time to unveil the next lot. This week it’s all about people, and some of those people are you.
Yes, we’re risking a kind of circular vote vortex by asking you to nominate other Bikemagic members for some of these awards. We know which members we think make a special contribution to the site, but we want to know what you think…
Obviously it would be slightly disproportionate to completely ignore everyone else in the world, so we’ve also got a couple of awards for famous/infamous people in the wider world of mountain biking.
And don’t forget that you can still post nominations for the Bikes and Gear categories…
Rider of the year
We’ll try to resist all the usual clichés about “pushing the envelope”, “redefining the limits” and all that nonsense. But we want to recognise the rider who, in your opinion, has acheived the most in 2007. They might be a racer in any of the many disciplines of competitive mountain biking, an ultra-distance adventure rider or just someone who’s pushed the… Ah. Anyway, it’s all about the riding.
Special award for services to mountain biking
Of course, not everyone involved in mountain biking is known for their riding. There are plenty of people who’ve had a huge impact on the sport/pastime/recreational activity in other ways. We’re thinking of trail builders, event organisers and the like. Let’s big up the people behind the scenes…
And don’t worry if you want to nominate someone without actually knowing their name – just put “whoever organised such-and-such an event” or whatever and we’ll figure it out.
Forum poster of the year
This is where you, the members, get some recognition. Bikemagic simply wouldn’t be what it is without the members, so we’ve got three awards just for you. First up is an award for Forum Poster of the Year. They might be endlessly witty, unrelentingly helpful or simply a bottomless fount of common sense and wisdom.
User review of the year
Next up, an award for the BM member who has made the best contribution to the ever-growing Member Review pages. Doesn’t matter if they’ve generated a huge corpus of useful reviews or just one work of genius, this one’s for whoever’s made the most valuable contribution.
Photo of the year
Finally this week, the inevitable award for artistic impression – we’re looking at photos submitted to the Bikemagic gallery. There’ve been some absolute stormers in there, but which ones are the best of the best?
You know the score by now – hit the forum, get your nominations down, discuss.
