For quite a while now volunteer trail building organisation Singletraction has been building trails at Stainburn Forest, above Lindley Wood reservoir (10 miles north of Leeds).
There’s now a black route signposted through the wood providing technical singletrack challenges and a very technical short loop of purpose built, fully armoured, all weather trail, but that’s not all. The ultimate aim is to have nearly 4km of purpose built trail. It’s all being done by volunteers, no fancy diggers or paid gangs of workers. In the last few months and since the opening of the loop (containing the now infamous “slab”) work has continued on a very promising long downhill section. This section will includes jumps, boulder slopes, off cambers, tight switchbacks and much more (even a little section of Yorkshire North Shore). If you like the sound of that and want to get involved, now’s your chance.
Building of this section has got so far, with edging and placement of large stones to form the bed of the trail complete. Now it needs the hardcore placing and to get it there we need help. Which means barrows and people. In fact more people than barrows would be fine. If it’s technical getting down it on your bike imagine the challenge of a fully laden wheelbarrow…
So this is a plea for all those of sound body (mind being relatively unimportant) to come out and lend a hand.
When: 10:00am, Sunday 5th September
Where: The car park on the B6451, north of Lindley Wood reservoir
The work will last until about 5pm but we’d be happy to see people for any length of time. Even if it’s just an hour or two that would help. It’ll make the Sunday pint and roast all the more enjoyable, honest. You never know, you might like it and come back for more (first Sunday of every month).
If you want to put a bit back into biking please come along on Sunday, with or without your wheelbarrow.
