‘Art of Mountain Biking’ to exhibit in Lancashire

Is it art? Or just Mike Davis and a Photoshop filter?

Townley Hall, Lancashire, will play host to the UK’s first exhibition of mountain bike art in September, when the ‘Art of Mountain Biking’ goes on show. Running for four months, the exhibition, organised by Singletrack magazine and Burnley Borough Council, will showcase a selection of mountain bike photographers, cartoonists and film-makers, along with some of the most sculptural bike products on the market.

Those confirmed to display work at the Burnley gallery include photographers, Seb Rogers, Andy McCandlish, Al Santos, Steve Makin, Mark Riemer, Chipps Chippendale and Mark Alker, along with Mint Sauce cartoonist, Jo Burt.

Mint Sauce fans can look forward to four specially commissioned works and 50 original drawings by creator, Jo Burt.

Video from MTBBritain and cult US site PeterFagerlin.com, will be projected onto a huge screen, along with digital work from the above snappers, for that ‘being there’ feeling.

In contrast to the cack they are usually covered in, classy components from manufacturers such as Chris King, Salsa, Specialized, Trek and Gary Fisher will be displayed in glass cases, and there are plans for a parody of Damian Hirst’s formaldehyde farm animals.

Finally, there are plans for exponents of the trail-building art to build a section of trail that weaves around the displays, in a kind of Andy Goldsworthy-way.

‘The Art of Mountain Biking’ kicks off on the 8th of September and runs until the 5th of January. Entry is free, but there’ll be plenty of original prints on sale from the artists involved.
