German company’s helmets now available in the UK
Alpina helmets are now being brought into the UK by distributor Moore Large and at its recent trade-only show, where bike shops and journalists get the opportunity to see the latest products that will be arriving on shop shelves soon, it showed the latest Alpina Carapax enduro-specific helmet.
Alpina is a German company with a wide range of helmets catering for different disciplines, and has a strong focus in the mountain bike market. The Carapax is its latest model and it clearly touted as an enduro helmet. The trail/enduro orientated design features the lower side and rear protection that is typical of enduro lids.
It’s constructed from EPS foam, punctated with 17 air vents to keep your head cool. The front vents are lined with mesh to keep bugs and flies out. The large peak is height adjustable and the Run System Ergo Pro retention system enables easy fit adjustment. It’s a reasonable weight, with a claimed 250g putting it in the same ballpark as similarly priced helmets.
There’s a lot of choice for trail/enduro helmets such as the POC Octal and Bell Super, and at £89.99 and with a choice of colours, the Carapax looks a good choice if you want something a bit different. It’s available in black/pink, white/blue, green or black/white, with two sizes.
