Beds Fat Trax’s Rowney Warren riding area (better known as Chicksands) is, despite its relatively small size, nationally famous. That’s largely because they’re an industrious lot over there and keep building new and interesting things to ride. It’s all impressively inclusive, too – there’s XC loops, North Shore-style balancy things, short DH runs, drops, a jump spot and a dual slalom track.
The latest addition to Chicksands’s trail arsenal is an all-new 4X track, complete with proper big start ramp and everything. And to celebrate the official opening the club is hosting a two day dirt jump/4X race event on 3/4 June.
Saturday will be dirt jump comp day. There’ll be Youth and Senior classes, practice from whenever you can get yourself there until 11am and the comp itself kicking off at 12 noon.
Sunday’s 4X racing will follow a similar format, but there’re a lot more categories – Juvenile, Youth,
Senior, Master, Pro-Elite and Ladies.
Entry fees are a tenner for the dirt jump and fifteen for the 4X (unless you’re a Pro-Elite in which case it’s £20). Full details of the prize pot are yet to be finalised, but the Pro-Elite 4X winner will get a cash prize of £300, with £200 for second place and £100 for third. There’ll be cash and product prizes across all the other categories too.
More details as they become available – in the meantime have a shufti at www.bedsfattrax.org.
