Fans of 24-hour races should unleash their 2004 diaries, as the first two organisers off the blocks have announced details of their events – and there are changes afoot…
First up, the legendary Saab Salomon Mountain Mayhem moves from its traditional home of Sandwell Park, Birmingham to the hillier area of Eastnor Deer Park, Herefordshire. Old-school racers will remember Eastnor as the home of the Malvern Hills Classic, and a sizable hill with a monument on top. Should make a change from the relatively low-lying Sandwell, and it’s a lovely spot too. The dates are 25-27 June 2004 – visit www.mountain-mayhem.co.uk for more details.
Further south, round-the-clock charity extravaganza CLIC24 is also on the move. It’ll now be on a brand-new course on private land in the Mendips, near Blagdon, Somerset. Last year’s event raised £19,000 for children’s leukaemia and cancer charity CLIC and the organisers are looking for even more next year.
