Team Extreme Endurance supremo and well-known endurance race Rob Lee has founded a new national club for UK-based enduro mountain bikers and solo racers. It’s called UK24 – 24 “represents the current benchmark distance/time for top-end solo competition in the UK today,” says Rob.
That said, membership certainly isn’t limited to 24-hour soloists – it’d be a pretty small club if it was. So if you’re into 12 or six hour, or 100km or even just longish XC races and rides, there should be something for you. The main aim of the club is to drive development of the UK long-distance race scene, by promoting such events as a viable alternative to those catered for by existing cycling organisations. There’ll also be a ranking system for epic racers.
Rob has support from key race organisers like Patrick Adams (Mountain Mayhem, SITS) and Paul Sumption (Dusk ’til Dawn) – Mountain Mayhem 2006 will incorporate the inaugural UK24 Solo Club Championships, a race within a race with a winner’s jersey and trophy for the highest-placed UK24 Solo Club rider.
