Those with a long memory will remember the Onabike Cup, a downhill race first held in 1994. In its first year, at Ashcombe, Devon, the race was won by Steve Kitchen.
Back then though DH bikes were in their infancy and were few and far between, but the series built up a solid base of riders in little time. The event has continued every year, with local fast rider Ashley Mullane winning the last three races.
He’ll be back to defend his title when the race takes to its new home at Avill Ball near Dunster, North Somerset on 23 December. But with UCI Junior World Cup Champion Josh Bryceland signed up he’ll have a race on his hands.
This year’s event is sponsored by Cloud Cover Instant Shelters and Nike 6.0. The Rider of the Day wins a Killing it certificate and loads and loads and loads of Nike goodies.
