Fast and furious racing in blue-sky perfect conditions – for spectating at least. Plenty of racers could be overheard grumbling about the rapidly eroding course, made much worse by the lack of rain and high temperatures.
There weren’t huge crowds for the finals of the Dual Slalom, but more people stuck around to the end this year, thanks no doubt to the lack of cold wind whipping up sandstorms as in previous years.
The corner that claimed so many – this flat, rutted turn towards the top of the blue course claimed many riders throughout the course of the weekend. With nothing but powdered dirt for grip, many fell foul and earned themselves an early trip home.
Gee Atherton was looking strong through the whole day, until a couple of mistakes led to him having to settle for 4th.
Sam Hill proves there’s one more thing he can do better than anyone else – win dual slalom events. Fast and smooth as ever, he rode a near-perfect event, eventually edging out Cody Warren in the final.
