Luke Eggar delivered the ride of the day to win the elite cross country race at round three of the RaceFace Circus of Dirt series in Abbeyford Wood.
The Southfork rider clocked 1:58.06 hours over six laps – on a bike borrowed from his dad – to force series leader John Whittington (Orbea/CNP) into second, while Torq’s Anthony O’Boyle completed the podium.
The track at Abbeyford was in first-class condition, with a gentle flowing river at the bottom overshadowed by the wood’s more precious commodities – booming downhills, jumps, gradual sweeping climbs and sections of trail with multiple line choices for overtaking.
Three rows of riders lined up on the start grid for the morning’s enduro, taking place before the XC race, with abilities ranging from riders attempting to take on both events to first-timers who would take most of the two hours to complete their first lap. Adrian Bellew cruised to victory as the only rider to complete five laps.
