Sleepless in the Saddle has always been a more down to earth 24-hour event than Mountain Mayhem, and this laid-back appoach is clearly still popular, with 1,400 riders making the journey to Catton Hall.

Now settled into it’s new-for-last-year location of Catton Hall, a fast dusty course was a treat in a year that has seen some spectacularly bad weather – mud tyres most certainly weren’t needed.

Shred-editor Steve Toze was on-hand to give us his thoughts from the weekend:

“Sleepless this year was an evolution of previous years. Whilst some races in the UK have got bigger this event has the feel of an event that has shrunk back a little. Is this a good thing? Yeah probably, for most people.”

“The huge rider numbers were still what we’ve come to expect from a Pat Adams’ event and organisation was no less slick so perhaps really it was just the absence of the usual pro rider faces that made the event feel different.”

Forum regular Juan Doran, a fan of 24-hour events, said: “SITS was awesome, possibly the best 24-hour race I’ve done. Nice course, decent weather, lovely mellow atmosphere and we got 24th out of 141 in Sport Men, so we were happy as a team. And I went pretty well, so I was happy as an individual.”
