Mike Hall obliterated the previous  Fastest Circumnavigation of the World by Bicycle Record when he returned to London on Monday 4 June after 91 days and 18 hours of cycling, giving us more than just the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee to cheer about.

Cycling an average distance of 200 miles a day, Mike covered the 18,000 mile journey a staggering 15 days quicker than the previous record of 106 days, set by Alan Bate. Alan was supported for much of his attempt. Mike rode completely unsupported, making his achievement even more impressive.

Mike, a familiar name to readers of Bikemagic.com for his habit of winning mountain bike endurance events, made the record all the sweeter by finishing on his 31st birthday.

Mike’s route started in Greenwich on 18 February and headed east, through Turkey, India, Australia, New Zealand, Canada and across America to New York. From there he cycled from Portugal north through Spain, France and returned to London on Monday 4 June.

Originally planning to finish after 90 days, Mike’s first comment to the large crowd that had gathered to celebrate his return, including his mum, was “Sorry I’m late”.
