Gunn-Rita Dahle Flesjaa has won the UCI XC World Cup for the fourth consecutive year, despite being beaten into second place in the final round in Schladming, Austria. Marie-Helene Premont won her second successive World Cup round, staying on Dahle Flesjaa’s wheel for most of the race before making her move towards the end of the penultimate lap. Inevitably, Dahle Flesjaa wasn’t going to give up without a fight, and Premont crossed the line just 10 seconds ahead of her Norwegian rival.

In the men’s race, Swiss riders occupied the top three podium spots, with Christoph Sauser winning ahead of Florian Vogel and Ralph Näf. Series leader Julien Absalon could only manage 10th, but he’d done enough earlier in the season to add the World Cup title to his recent successful World Championship defence.

There was a respectable showing from the British riders, with Liam Killeen 9th and Oli Beckingsale 13th. They were 6th and 21st respectively in the final overall standings.
