Core Bike Show 2012 product preview

We’re off to Core Bike Show next week, a trade-only show for a selection of distributors who look after some of the nicest brands in the business.

While we won’t know what exciting new products will be on show until we get there, we can give you a little teaser of what to expect. Here’s a quick roundup then, to whet your appetite as it were. Make sure to tune in next Wednesday for the full lowdown on all the juicy news.

Marzocchi

Marzocchi will be showing the £199 Marathon R alongside the 888RC3 Evo V2 Ti and 55RC3 Evo TI. Something we’re interested in seeing close up is the new Switch TA hydraulic travel-adjust system, which will star on the 2012 55 and 44 forks. Travel drops 40mm on the 55 fork and 30mm on the 44, making those steep climbs all that much easier and reduced chance of the front wheel wondering about.

Also from Marzocchi distributor Windwave will be the full range of accessory brand BBB. This company designs and produces a comprehensive range of parts and accessories that are suitable for every day riders to the very top of pro competition.

Silverfish

Silverfish will be there and showing the new range of Yeti bikes, which we got a good look at during the London Bike Show the other week. But we’re so excited about the new SB-66 we’ll be taking an even closer look.

Other news from Silverfish comes from Formula, the disc brake manufacturer. They’ll be launching the 2012 range of brakes from the Italian brand at the show, including the RO. This is the newest disc brake and uses a new compact calliper design, it’s 18% smaller compared to the previous top-end calliper design, and weighs just 361g per end.

They’ll also have the rest of the range on show, including the entry-level RX, which is available in black or white for 2012.

Also seeing the light of the day will be Formula’s new interest in suspension forks and wheels.

Kinesis FF29

It’s heading nearer to an actual production date, and we can’t wait; the new Kinesis FF29 is set to be one of the mostly highly anticipated 29ers of the year.

Of course we got an exclusive first ride on the frame, during its final development phase, some time ago. A choice of ‘packages’ will be available, with either an IX carbon rigid fork or XFusion suspension fork, or an optional upgrade of a pair of Reynolds XC29er wheels.

SealSkinz

SealSkinz will be showing their latest 2012 wares, including the updated All Weather Riding Gloves. A lightweight number, they’re totally waterproof, windproof and still manage to be breathable, for perfect all-season riding.

Brand new is the Waterproof Cycling Cap. It’s styled along similar lines to ‘roadie caps’ but with it’s 100% waterproof, windproof and breathable properties, and a peak to keep rain out of your eyes (especially handy if you don’t have a helmet with a peak) we like the look of it.

Additionally, their Winter Gloves have been improved too. The use a highly breathable membrane and improved insulation to make them even warmer.

Reynolds

Pride of display will be the stunning XC 29er carbon wheelset. We’re seeing more carbon fibre 29er wheelsets being released and Reynolds hit the ground running with its own design offering, with a decent weight and not-crazy-expensive pricing.

Each wheel is built by hand in the company’s own production facility, allowing extremely precise management of every step of the process, as well as ensuring quality control is right up there. They use continuous fibres of carbon, laid in place meticulously by hand, which creates a better structural finish. We’ve been riding them and will publish our review soon.

Celebrities to attend

As well as the latest products on show, they’ll be several mountain bike celebrities attending to give the show a little, well glamour we guess.

Danny Hart, Fabien Barel and Sam Pilgrim will be there, and we’ll be grabbing some time with them to get their thoughts on the 2012 season. So tune in next week for their interviews.
