Jose Antonio Hermida and Rudi Van Houts have been crowned champions of the 2012 Andalucia Bike Race after finishing second on the final stage.
The Multivan-Merida duo finished in the top two on every stage, notching up two victories on the way to the top of the overall standings, more than eight minutes ahead of the Multivan-Merida 2 team of Hannes Genze and Andreas Kugler.
Benjamin Justesen and Klaus Nielsen won the final 59.7km stage, nearly two minutes ahead of Hermida and Van Houts, to secure third overall.
“It has been a final day where there has not been too much stress,” said Hermida. “Both Rudi and I could feel the fatigue and we decided to set a good pace without running any risk. The overall was very much in our favour. Winning is great, and seeing that our colleagues Genze and Kugler finish in second position is the maximum. [It’s a] great result for the Multivan-Merida team.”
Meanwhile, Sally Bigham and Milena Landtwig won the female category, finishing the race an astonishing 45 minutes ahead of second place Asa Erlandsson and Kajsa Snihs.
And in the masters division, Manuel Rojo Nieto and Jose Maria Guerrero Ortega claimed the title, with Jose Urea Pulido and Jesus Lindez Gonzalez nearly nine minutes back.
