The internet has a infinite capacity to boggle and amaze, a fact confirmed by this remarkable device we came across the other day – the Fietscafe:
In case you can’t quite figure it out, what you’re looking at is something that should be dear to the hearts of many BM members – it’s a twelve-person pedal-driven mobile bar. A concept for which we think you’ll agree the word “fantastic” was invented.
There’s a website at www.fietscafe.nl – it’s all in Dutch, which to our shame we can’t read, but as far as we can make out they’ve got a fleet of them that you can hire out, or something. Whatever, it’s a marvellous invention.
And only moments after stumbling across the Fietscafe, BM member Mike Beckley sent us this shot of him in Copenhagen on a pre-war Dutch baker’s delivery bike:
This beast sports a single gear (soooo contemporary!) and steering controlled by articulated rods running from the handlebars to the worryingly-remote front wheel. Excellent.
But great though these are, we reckon the ever-resourceful Bikemagic membership can do better. Send us pictures of you or a friend riding something vaguely bikular but distinctly odd and we’ll add them to the collection. We might even manage to come up with some bijou prizettes, maybe. No promises, mind…
