Genesis updates steel and titanium frames

The new titanium frame uses a 44mm headtube
 1 of 1

Genesis Bikes is a brand that has gone from strength to strength over the last few years, and for 2011 it’s a case of refinements for its steel frames and a brand new titanium offering.

The new titanium frame has literally just landed at Genesis Bikes HQ, and looks very interesting judging from these photos we’ve been sent today. Of interest is a 44mm headtube (as we first saw on Ragley’s frames at Eurobike) and a triple butted downtube that uses a stepped-up thicker wall thickness near the head tube, removing the need for a gusset. Both the top and seat tube are double butted and a new asymmetric chainstay plate offers complete 2×10 chainline compatibility without sacrificing clearance around the tyre. Geometry has been modified to ensure 120mm forks feel right at home.

The steel frames in the Genesis range now benefit from the new Reynolds DZB (Dual Zone Butted) 853 tubeset, which has been developed from feedback following CEN testing – something which all frames now have to go through. The main change in the tubeset is a triple butted downtube with an increased wall thickness in a short section near the head tube, like that used on the titanium frame. An added bonus is there’s now no need for gussets so the frames have a cleaner and smoother look.

The other big change is a 44mm headtube, like on the titanium frame we talked about earlier. Such a head tube will accept 1 1/8in, 1.5in and tapered forks, making it easy to fit whatever fork you favour for your style of riding, while future-proofing the frame.

Prices and availability to be announced.
