What did you do last weekend?

Yesterday you asked for – “If anyone finds any real news, notices something
vaguely amusing on their way into work or perhaps even had something for
breakfast that they don’t normally have, then we’ve got a premier news slot
waiting just for you ;-)”

Well, here’s my story:

2 dodgy geezers on dodgy bikes ‘do’ the South Downs

On Wednesday last week myself (39) and father-in-law (66) rode the 106 mile
South Downs Way Off-Road route in 3 days. Starting out in Winchester and
ending in Eastbourne these dodgy geezers did the route on one 10 year-old
rigid frame Ridgeback (light but rusty) and one GT with front suspension
(handy but heavy). Day One (37 miles) was v.muddy, v.wet and v.cold.

Stopping off overnight at the ‘Moonlight Tea Rooms’ in Cocking (thanks Colin
and Brenda) it was with trepidation and stiff legs that we started Day 2
(35 miles) – Cocking to the Devils Dyke. A better day – no rain but windy
with frequent falling off in the muddy conditions. Day 3 – the final day (34
miles) much better, sunshine and what little wind there was, was behind us!
Open downland meant long, fast downhill runs (great for tired legs). Cream
tea at Alfriston to re-fuel (recommended) and onwards to Eastbourne for the
long-awaited pint!

All in all a thoroughly recommended ride. Thanks to Addiscombe CC for the
tips (ta, Jason) , Harveys for the Maps and Carling for the lager. Do it
again? You bet!
