At the weekend young Danny Hart pieced together an absolutely perfect run on a hard tough course in brutal conditions to win the DH World Championships by a staggering 11 seconds!
If you haven’t seen his awesome ride yet, here it is. We can’t emphasise enough how much you need to watch it. Twice!
Torrential rains during the men’s finals turned the Champéry course treacherous, dashing the hopes of top contenders as one after another crashed in the slick, muddy conditions. Hart, unfazed, attacked the course in his typical style. He let it all hang out and electrified the crowd, surviving several near misses and blitzing the competition with a huge 11-second margin of victory.
“I had a perfect day to have a track be technical, wet and in the pouring rain, and I had a faultless run,” Hart told Cyclingnews.com. “I come from England, and it rains every weekend. I saw a river running down the track at the start. I thought I’d try to ride to the bottom in the river. It wasn’t as grippy in the dry, but it was grippy enough.”
With the win, Hart added to his 2009 Junior Downhill World Championship and joined Steve Peat and Gee Atherton as one of three Brits to be crowned elite men’s DH World Champion.
