Sugoi’s range keeps on expanding. We received some of the Canadian company’s autumn/winter range recently, and from the thermal range is the Surge T. It’s a long sleeve mid layer which uses Convector material, offering a ‘micro-environment between your skin and fabric’ – which basically means the jersey keeps you warm by retaining your body heat but letting your sweat evaporate.
If you like your clothing looser and baggier, you’ll like the Surge T, as it’s a relaxed fit – size down if you prefer a closer fitting garment. As thermal layers go, it’s nice and simple; flat lock stitching and a smart two tone colour combination are appealing. A four inch invisible zip pocket placed diagonally across the left sleeve is a really nice touch and is great for stowing cash or other small widgets – best not put anything too heavy in there though.
It’s a perfect partner when mixed with a couple of other layers – a base layer and gillet was our favoured combo. Even on its own in warmer conditions the jersey still works well and the looser fit remains comfortable on long rides.
Four colour schemes are availble, the Red/Black pictured, plus Arrow/Black, Patriot/Inc and Black/Cement.
Positives: Looks great, good cut, keeps you warm
Negatives: Bit too baggy for some perhaps
Verdict
The Surge T is perfect when partnered with a couple of other layers, and when it’s warmer it adequate on its own. It even looks good off the bike.
