One Industries’ Atmosphere is a glove of similar nature to Scott’s Minus; it’s aimed at cold weather riding but designed limit the restriction of movement that some winter gloves suffer with. It succeeds, and we like the palm material, but it isn’t as warm as other winter gloves.

We had a friendly visit from One Industries several weeks ago, and aside from bringing the most almighty of cake selections, they also presented their 2013 range of kit. To think that One Industries – originally a motocross firm – were small, almost non-existent, in the mountain biking world only a year or so ago is quite astonishing. Since signing-up the Atherton clan and their team, GT Factory Racing, One have developed quite a range.

The Atmosphere is one of a selection of seven gloves all with differing purposes. This is of course the most relevant to the current season so we jumped at the opportunity to don another grim-weather glove to test against our recent subjects (Scott Minus and Glacier Glove).

Features of the Atmosphere include a single layer Pittards leather palm, “waterproof windbreaker softshell” material on the rear, stretchy ‘spandex’ on the inner of the fingers and a nice, secure feeling closure thanks to the hook-and-loop Velcro fastening. They are also “weatherproof to 40 degrees”…

The gloves certainly look the part and particularly where the Pittards leather palm material is concerned. It’s refreshing to see a company go out and use a less favoured material where it matters.

In use, the gloves give a great feel through to the bars and the leather palm is superbly grippy, even when faced with a fistful of UK muck. They share the comfy feel of Scott’s Minus and your hands almost feel privileged to be sporting such a nicely constructed set of gloves; stitching, materials and finish can’t be faulted. After several weeks of daily use and abuse the gloves show no sign of wear in any area.

In the coldest of conditions and when riding at speed, it has to be said that a little breeze can be felt through the backing material which brings digit temperature down. When used on the same rides, the Scott Minus gloves didn’t have this problem, perhaps a sign of superior material in the Gore Windstopper backing they use. At all other times the Atmosphere gloves kept hands warm and dry though.

The Pittards leather palm is a nice touch and these gloves give a secure, warm feel, but the backing material does let a cold breeze through when riding at speed.
