Some shoes make a statement and none more so than these explosive black and ygreen Northwave Striker S.B.S. shoes that just arrived in the Bikemagic office.
Brand new for 2011, the Striker sits three down from the Italian company’s most expensive model but still tick all the boxes if you’re in the market for a loud, stiff, light and high performance shoe.
Yes they’re loud shoes, but worry not, other more muted colours are available, as a quick look at the Northwave website reveals. Phew. Mad attention grabbing colour aside, there’s a lot to like about the Striker.
Firstly the The upper features loads of mesh for good ventilation and the fit is enhanced by two lightweight mesh Velcro straps at the front of the shoe and the company’s own micro ratchet strap, which can be adjusted for length. They’re light too, we grabbed a couple of other brand shoes littering the office and they’re on a par in this (admittedly not very scientific) test.
These shoes are clearly designed with the performance rider in mind, so the carbon reinforced nylon sole is properly stiff. There’s a Performance Pro Footbed inside and turn the shoe over and there’s a typically aggressive tread pattern made from dual density rubber for better traction when you’re forced to walk up a rocky chute. Optional stud fittings are there for the depths of winter riding.
Sizes available from 37 up to 47 and three colours are on offer, including a very suitable-for-UK-conditions black. They cost £159.99.
Watch out for a review soon.
