Giro has traditionally been just a helmet company, but last year it launched into the eyewear market with an impressive range of products, and this year it follows with the debut of gloves. And an impressively wide range it is too. There’s also several new eyewear models, and a brand new race helmet.
The biggest difference is the vents, there’s now 23 which have been designed in the wind tunnel so it should suck and pull air through the helmet much more effectively. Underneath the in-mould microshell there’s an EPS liner which creates an exoskeleton around the vents, and Roc Loc 4 keeps it snug on your head. The Athlon costs £99.99 and is available in five colours. The new Athlon replaces the long-standing and firm race favourite E2. The latter was such a classic that perhaps wisely Giro has chosen not to change the winning formula too much, which explains why it looks startlingly similar.
