Endura 2013 sneak peek: MTR go-faster shorts

Scottish clothing maker Endura has revealed a few of the new mountain bike lines it’ll be showing at the Eurobike expo in Friedrichshafen, Germany, August 29 to September 1.

There will be a new high end range for off-road riders, dubbed MTR, which we’re speculating runs parallel to the popular Equipe range for roadie racing snakes. It includes bib shorts, a rare item to find in any range of off-road cycling gear.

Endura says the new MTR clothing line is for “the more ambitious cross-country rider.” Endura recruited UK Olympian and pro rider Oli Beckingsale to help develop the concept, features and performance properties for MTR.

Pictured here are the MTR Baggy Shorts and MTR Bibshorts. An anti-slip attachment system holds both items together and in place without snaps or Velcro.

Endura MTR bib shorts can be used on their own or with the MTR Baggy outer shell.

The two pieces are designed to work together or separately, unlike the conceptually similar Dirtbaggies which really only work as a unit unless you’re willing to be seen out in mesh Lycra shorts. Not that there’s anything wrong with that if you are…

The Endura MTR bib shorts have the attachment panel on the lumbar area while the matching grip surface panel is in the inner waistband of the baggies.

The bib shorts are available in either MT500 lycra or with a waterproof softshell seat panel for protection from tyre spray. The cut curves the shorts into a racing position like top-end roadie bibs and there’s a mountain bike-specific endurance pad, wicking mesh upper with Y-form bound armholes, and wide lightweight silicone Y-form hem grippers.

The MTR Baggy Shorts are similarly curved and close-fitting. they’re made from a four-way stretch fabric  with a high crotch rise to prevent saddle catch. There’s a rear panel in with high DWR (Durable Water Repellency) finish to protect from spray while mesh panels at the front and at the side provide ventilation.

A broad rear horizontal rib panel provides back stretch rise. Waist adjusters within the waistband channel allow an individual fit. The MTR Baggy Shorts have hip zipped security pockets and a rear zipped and padded media pocket on the back waist.

Endura at Sleepless

Endura Sleepless in the Saddle jersey

Endura is also the official clothing supplier to the Singletrack Sleepless in the Saddle 24 hour mountain bike race, at Catton Park, Staffordshire, August 4-5.

To mark the occasion, Endura is offering a Sleepless in the Saddle short sleeve jersey which you can order now to pick up from the Endura stand on race weekend.

Plus, Endura’s doing a trade-in deal on old jerseys at Sleepless. The description of the scheme is so painfully pun-tastic that we can do no more than simply cut and paste it:

Are ewe-r cycling jerseys a bit a ram-shackle? Are your biking fleeces in pieces? It’d be a ca-lamb-ity if you missed our competition bleating Scrappage Scheme offer at Singletrack Sleepless in the Saddle:

Ren-Ewe your old jersey. Trade-in any old jersey and get 45% off an Endura BaaBaa Merino Tech Jersey.

Ouch. Good deal though. £25 instead of £44.99.
