Minimalist styling hide what are some of the best value bib shorts on the market.

Price: £49.99

What they say: The Aeron Race shorts provide a mild increase in weight from the Aeron shorts, meaning more compression on the legs and an all round level of performance normally associated with a far higher price.

What it is: Comfort is the word that comes to mind when riding in the dhb Aeron Race bib shorts. The mid points in the dhb Aeron range, the Race bibs are the best of both worlds.

The styling of the shorts is not half bad either. Available in white, black, blue and red, the subtle accents of colour on the leg cuffs as well as the straps may be a little too understated for some, but it does mean they will fit with almost any outfit.

Around the legs and gluts dhb’s Action 205 stretch fabrics provide fantastic support, fully wrapping around the muscle. The material is on the thicker side, which can be seen as a good factor given the milder UK climate. However, when temperatures rise they can get a little stuffy down below even while doing a decent job of wicking away sweat.

The material and stitching is tremendously durable though, standing up to every-day use for months and months on end with very little sign of wear on either the chamois or on the saddle contact points.

As is usually the case with bib shorts sizing are a little on the smaller size; not quite at Castelli levels of miniature, but still worth bearing in mind when sizing up.

Who it’s good for: The all round performance and hardiness of the dhb Aeron Race shorts makes them ideal for anyone from the beginner to the keen sportive rider who is looking for sub £100 bib shorts.
