Donning a bulky, extra warm fleece at the end of a freezing ride is one of the greatest pleasures left to mankind. It’s all too tempting though not to pack something warm and dry to chuck on when you get back to the car. Too often you end up going home in your cold, wet riding kit. What you need is something too bulky to wear on the bike, something so warm that you wouldn’t dream of leaving it behind and rugged enough to stand up to being left in the car when not needed. The Gill Icelander is much, much, too bulky to ride hard in, very durable and comes into its own when you need to warm up in the car park/on the train home. The design is simple: throw over with elasticated wrists and one natty, side-entry pocket. The chunky, knit effect, Pontetorto-Tecnopile fleece is very, very warm and seems to wick fine. If it was wind and shower proof it would be the perfect post-ride pull-over, and probably twice the already luxurious £59.99 price.
If you can only buy yourself one winter treat then the Icelander is well worth a look.
