Tech Centre: Dave Weagle talks Split Pivot

Dave Weagle is a well known name in the mountain bike suspension business, refusing to follow the trends and instead innovating with this suspension designs.

First was the DW Link, and he followed that up with Split Pivot. Using a concentric dropout pivot (a pivot at the rear wheel axle joining the seatstays and chainstays) the Split Pivot separates braking and acceleration forces. The system reduces excess suspension reaction to acceleration forces, and at the same time reduces excess reaction to braking forces.

The latest company to embrace the design is Devinci with its 145mm Dixon. In this video, Dave explains that the system uses “three components, the wheel link (chainstays) which controls how the bike reacts to acceleration, the control link (the rocker linkage) which controls braking feel and bump feel in the suspension, and the brake link (the seat stays) which floats between the control link and wheel link and basically allows the complete separation of braking forces from acceleration and bump forces.”

Watch the video below for the full explanation. Enjoy.
