Our month of 29ers has been causing a stir. No sooner had we launched the first daily 29er show case than we had an email from ‘Rob’ yelling: “Right you lot, you need to get yourself on a proper 29er!”
Clearly we were intrigued, and so we replied straight away. Turns out Rob rides a Canfield Yelli Screamy, his third 29er so far, having moved on from a Diamonback Mojito and an On-One titanium hardtail before that. A clear 29er convert if ever there was one.
Want to find out more, we pitched a couple of questions at him to find out more about his 29er conversion.
Bikemagic: How long have you been riding 29er?
Rob: Three years.
BM: Tell us about your current setup
Rob: Canfield Yelli Screamy , Fox talas 110-140mm fork, Gravity Dropper seat post, Super star hubs with ztr flow rims, Formula Oro brakes 160mm rear, 200mm front, SJSC Ergo Control Bar Ends, Crankbrother pedals and Shimano XT drivetrain.
BM: Do you think 29ers are the future?
Rob: As hardtails, yes. I think a 140mm full suspension, like the Transition Bandit would be perfect for Megavalanche but for big travel downhill no, but the 650 size may go that way – more space for suspension).
BM: Will we all be riding them within five years?
Rob: Yes, lighter of course.
BM: Will you ever go back to 26in bikes?
Rob: Not really , I’m to old to backflip and do mid air tricks, which are what smaller wheeled bikes are good at.
