German brand Fixie Inc. have a penchant for producing fine steel tubed fixed wheel and geared road bikes, and wonder you may why we’re giving such a brand space on a mountain bike website.
Well, hidden not-so-deeply within the range is something that interests us, the Pure Blood. It’s the company’s cyclo-cross bike, but it’s a little different form the norm in the world of skinny knobbly tyred 'cross bikes.
The custom drawn 4130 steel frame only accepts disc brakes, making it immediately more accessible to those used to powerful mountain bike disc brakes and wary of the often puny stoppage power afforded by conventional brake calipers.
Up front is a new fork, the DiscO, which nicely complements the rear wishbone seatstays. Finally, it’s been painted in a new lick of bright yellow paint and is finished with SRAM Force components and black parts.
So, if you're looking to get into cyclo-cross this winter or want a versatile bike for a spot of commuting and gentle off-road action, the Pure Blood could be worth a look. We'll look to get one in for review soon.
