Electric bikes push Formula One star’s Buttons

Young Formula one star Jenson Button has apparently taken time off from hurtling round circuits at 200mph to spend a while circulating at a more sedate speed.

He’s been called in as unlikely figurehead for a marketing campaign run by Electric Vehicle Distribution International Ltd. (EVD for short). The EVD range of three Jenson pedelecs and three Jenson full suspension MTBs was launched at the Autosport International Show at the NEC this weekend, with more bikes to come at the NEC cycle show in March.

“This is a fantastic coup. Getting Jenson on board will add glamour to being environmentally friendly,” says Steve Loftus, MD of EVD. though it seems Jensen is involved through his dad being a mate of the EVD top brass, rather than a sudden desire for electric motion.

EVD are apparently planning to sell 20,000 bikes across Europe this year and become the biggest electric bike supplier. Judging from the Suntour fork / budget component behemoth above they appear to be labelling as a “DH” bike (that’ll be DH on gravel paths and tarmac then, not “real” DH) then they aren’t afraid to look on the optimistic side of things.

We’ll hopefully let you know more about prices, specifications, technology and designs when they’ve recharged their website enough to get it up and running. In the meantime – despite our best environmental intentions – we advise Jenson to stick to petrol power for his day job.
