London-based Pearson Cycles, the oldest cycle retailer in the world, have launched a new carbon fibre cyclo-cross bike equipped with disc brakes.
Disc brakes are starting to spread slowly throughout the world of cyclo-cross with a few manufacturers bringing disc-ready cyclo-cross frames to the market this winter. The ‘I’ve Started So I’ll Finish’ model is one of the first carbon fibre versions we’ve seen so soon.
It’s built using a unidirectional carbon fibre construction with disc mounts, massive clearance and stunning decals. The frame is still canti-ready but the bike here was built up with hydraulic TRP Parabox disc brakes and TRP’s Parabox converter, which allows regular brake levers to be used.
Pearson describe the geometry as slightly laid back than typical race focused ‘cross bikes. “The geometry is slightly more relaxed compared to your typical cross bike thus it lends itself perfectly to competitive cross, whilst being comfortable enough for an all-day trail bike.” Which sounds good to us.

With the (final) shift to disc brakes in cyclo-cross design the one aspect, poor brake performance, that has traditionally put us off, is going to become a distant memory, and disc-equipped cyclo-cross bikes will become a lot more popular. We think mountain bikers will ready warm to this new breed of bicycle setup, where versatility is a valued prospect.
The frame will cost £1299 and the complete bike as pictured will set you back £2599.
