MTB Distribution, the company responsible for Viper in the UK, has announced that it’s now also the sole UK distributor for Electra bikes. Strictly speaking, Electras aren’t mountain bikes, so we’re a little outside our remit here, but they are pretty funky. It’s not just about looks, though – Electra’s big thing is to make cruiser-style bikes that aren’t ridiculously heavy, can actually be pedalled and have useful features like handling and stability.
Almost the entire Electra range look like singlespeeds, but many actually have Shimano Nexus hub gears. Not that epic climbs are really what these bikes are about. They generally have rear coaster brakes, though, so you’ll be able to do really good skids…
There’s a vast range of bikes (have a gander at www.electrabike.com) and we don’t know at this point how many of them MTB Distribution will bring in or indeed how much they’ll cost. You’ll be able to find out at the increasingly-imminent London Cycle Show, though, where MTB will be launching the range.
