RockShox’s lightest fork now available for 29ers
Will include a 15mm Maxle Lite option as well as standard 9mm QR
It was only a matter of time before the legendary SID was given a 29er makeover. At Sea Otter recently RockShox revealed its latest fork to please the 29er enthusiasts, but since we didn’t jet off to California to check it out for ourselves, we’ve had to wait for this press release.
29ers have, so far, been keenly adopted by XC racers and so RockShox updating the SID for the 29er market was an obvious step, following on from the Reba 29er which has been out for a while.
Low weight is the SID’s USP, and at 1.582g (3.48lb) for the XX World Cup version (with a carbon one-piece crown and steerer) it certainly is one of the lightest offerings currently available. A 15mm Maxle Lite axle ensures its stiff for the job too. It’s just over 200g lighter than the Reba 29er XX.
Aside from the necessary changes to fit 29er bikes, much of the tech is carried over from the current 26in version. That means 32mm stanchions, 120mm travel, Dual Air spring with BlackBox Motion Control damping internals and PowerBulge lower legs.
