This is the SkullyBoom SB1 wearable speaker, designed to be tough and rugged for those times when you really want to share your music when you’re out riding.
This little speaker uses a lithium ion battery which can be recharged via a USB lead and powers a single 2in speaker which offers a surprisingly clear and loud sound from any audio source with a 3.5mm audio connection. Following the required 1.5hr charge we had it plugged into the Bikemagic iPod and were filling the office with some funky tunes.
Audio clarity and definition isn’t up there with the best, and there’s only one speaker which means mono, rather than stereo sound, but its USP is that it can be taken on the move. There’s a sturdy belt clip on the back of the speaker which means you can clip it to the waistband of your trousers or any piece of clothing or your backpack so you can have tunes on the move.
It’s made from a tough plastic and feels solid and bombproof, so should easily shake off the usual knocks and scrapes that a portable wearable speaker should be expected to withstand. So if you crash a lot, the SkullyBoom should be fine and still pump out your favourite tunes.
Inside the box is a short USB lead for charging from your computer and a 3.5mm audio cable in a tidy cable retractable stow for avoiding knotted cables.
