Stylish, colourful, comfortable and well ventilated helmet
What they say: The Trabec is a well-ventilated in-mold helmet that combines functionality and performance for single track and enduro riders in need of the highest degree of protection. The construction is similar to the trabecular bone structure, which has excellent resistance and durability.
What it is: Swedish company POC have gained quite a following with their colourful and stylish Trabec helmet, and its looks are more than skin deep. First things first, the helmet offers a fantastic fit, few helmets are quite as comfortable. Inside is an easy to use adjustable retention mechanism that provides a snug fit without ever feeling like it’s pinching your head. Spare liner pads are supplied to tailor the fit if needed.
The Trabec has been designed to offer a wider spread of protection around the sides of the head, and the feeling is that your head is cocooned inside it. Safety is paramount with a bit of kit designed to protect your head, and the use of Aramid-reinforced fibres within the expanded polystyrene core provides good impact resistance, so it can take the knocks and remain connected during a bigger impact.
POC have given the Trabec enough vents (16) to provide necessary cooling airflow. Grind away up a long hill in warm temperatures and the Trabec is sufficiently airy to prevent sweaty overheating. The peak is unobtrusive when riding, unlike the Bell Super’s peak, which really is too large.
Who it’s good for: The POC Trabec is a great trail helmet with good looks and a wide range of colours so you can colour match to your bike and kit, if you’re that way inclined. Beside the good looks, there’s genuinely attention to detail with respect to safety.
