Eurobike 2012: Mio GPS computer range expanded

Mio have introduced a range of affordable computers, dubbed the 100 Series, to complement the high-end 300 Series units unveiled earlier this year.

The Mio Cyclo 105 units are ANT+ compatible

Mio, the cycling division of the Navman sat nav company, launched in May and the four-strong range of 100 Series computers are, according to Mio, aimed at “the sportive cyclist looking for an everyday training companion to keep track of his performance” and willing to forgo the turn-by-turn navigation offered by the 300 Series.

All four of the wireless 100 Series computers use a GPS signal to record data including speed, distance, height and calorie consumption, presented on a clear 1.8” anti-glare screen with a customisable layout and a claimed 18 hours of battery life.

That’s as far as it goes with the Cyclo 100 (€139.99), but things start to get interesting with the Cyclo 105, Cyclo 105H and Cyclo 105HC, which all have a built-in ANT+ sensor.

The Cyclo 105 (€169.99) package comes with just the computer, so you can link it up with your own heart rate monitor. The Cyclo 105H (€209.99) comes with a heart rate monitor in the box, while the Cyclo 105HC (€239.99) comes with a heart rate monitor and cadence sensor.

At first glance these aggressively priced computers, available from the end of September, look a serious competitor to the Garmin Edge 200 and Edge 500, and we’re hoping to get our hands on one to see if they’re a genuine threat to the market leader’s excellent units.
