Want to improve your descending? Vaguely within striking distance of Strathmashie Forest at Laggan Bridge, Newtonmore, Scotland? Local club the North Argyll Cycle Club has the day for you. It’s running a downhill training day on Sunday 19 March with the help of local riders Stu Thompson, Ian Cookson, Ben Cathro, Tommy Wilkinson, Joe Barnes and Chris Hutchens. They’re all pretty handy downhillers (going on very handy indeed) so you’re bound to pick up some good stuff.
You don’t have to be a downhill racer, aspiring or otherwise, to take part – the day is aimed at any rider wanting to improve their descending skills. All you need is a sound bike, a helmet and some gloves, although obviously other clothing is a good idea – take body armour if you’ve got it, long sleeved tops and long pants otherwise. Which is a good idea even if you don’t fall off – this is, after all, Scotland in March that we’re talking about.
If you’re lucky enough to be a NACC member then the day’ll cost you £15 and you probably don’t need us to tell you about it. If you’re not a member it’ll be £25, although it seems to us that if you’re vaguely local you might as well stump up £30 to join NACC and attend the training day.
