To mark the official end of winter on 30 April, Scottish MTB adventure company MB7 is staging an epic 175km (110 mile) ride across Scotland. The ride will depart from the impressive Drumlanrig Castle at dawn, and riders will have until the sun sets to make it to the finish at the equally impressive Edinburgh Castle.
Those taking part will ride in pairs, and the route will take in some of the toughest hills in Scotland (a country not known for a lack of toughness in the hill department) and will also go via Ae and Glentress, two of the 7stanes centres. This is a unique event, and riders will need to be confident they can manage the distance. Some of the route will be guided, though a map and compass will probably be a good idea.
MB7’s Iain Withers commented: “We always remember the biggest challenges in our lives, no matter how hard they’ve been. We’re setting a challenge to anybody who wants to push themselves and see just how far they can pedal in a day. It’s not a conventional race against other people, but a race against tired legs and daylight. The winner is not the first person to complete the whole distance, or even the person to complete the biggest distance, but everyone that reaches their full potential distance.”
