We reported last week that US 4X rider Tara Llanes had crashed heavily and sustained serious injuries to her lower back, resulting in her being paralysed from the waist down.
Despite seven hours of surgery at the Denver Health Hospital, it was determined she had no feeling from the waist down. This is tragic news to everybody involved in the sport, but Llanes’s competitive nature and determination is getting her through this difficult period.
Since spending two weeks in the Denver Health Hospital, Llanes “will begin a six to seven week inpatient rehabilitation stay at the Craig facility, also in Denver Colorado. From there, she will travel back to her home in southern California and continue outpatient physical therapy,” her website reports.
Following the accident, Llanes’s family has set up the Road to Recovery Fund, accepting donations to help towards the substantial costs that will be incurred during her rehabilitation and recovery over the coming weeks and months.
