The fat 27.5+ standard gains support from Fox with its newest suspension fork
Suspension fork manufacturer Fox has unveiled its support for the new 27.5+ standard, which increases tyre width to 3in, with the unveiling of the new Fox Float 34 27.5+ fork.
There are a growing number of bicycle manufacturers adopting the new 27.5+ standard, and now that Fox has shown its support with the release of this new 34 fork, expect to see quite a few new bikes being offered this year, built around wider rims and tyres.
The 27.5+ standard is proving popular because it’s sort of a fat bike lite, not as extreme as some of the fat bikes that have been released in recent years, but the 3in tyre is obviously a lot wider than regular mountain bike tyres, and this appeals to some mountain bikers.
Key to the new 34 fork is the increased width to accommodate the wider tyre. Fox has achieve this increase by widening the axle out to 110mm, instead of the more conventional 100mm. That means it’ll accept the new Boost 110 front hubs, which SRAM has just released wheels and hubs for recently.
Several travel options will be offered, from 110 to 150mm, and the fork has a 51mm offset. Inside the fork is the latest FIT4 closed cartridge damper and an updated air spring.
