Halcyon Cerberus £1000 hardtail – first look

Halcyon is a relatively new brand, launching earlier this year, and the flagship Cerberus has just arrived in the office to be reviewed.

The brand was set up by Gelert Cycle Division, a Welsh-based outdoor equipment company that decided it wanted to get into cycling. A range covering prices from the mid- to high-end were developed with road bikes, commuters and mountain bikes featuring in the catalogue.

The Cerberus was designed in the UK and tested on trails around the country. It’s the company’s range topping bike and costs £999. For that you get a triple butted 7005 aluminum frame with ovalised tube profiles, plenty of tyre and mud clearance around the stays and cables routed under the top tube.

It drew some admiring glances when Keith from Halcyon wheeled it into the Bikemagic office, the paintjob and colour coded brakes providing a good looking package.

The spec comprises a Shimano SLX mix with an XT rear mech a notable upgrade, RockShox Tora TK forks with handlebar mounted Pop Loc lockout lever, and colour coded Tektro Auriga Pro disc brakes. There’s a triple chainset combined with a 10-speed cassette for a generous spread of gears. Finishing kit is Kalloy Uno bars, stem, post and a Canyon Race saddle.

We’ll be getting it out on the trail soon and will report back with a review.
