Since they launched just a couple of years ago Ragley, headed by ex-On-One designer Brant Richards, has carved a name for sorted hardtails. Now the logo can be found on a range of accessories, and the first sample we’ve got our mitts on is this pretty smart carbon riser handlebar.
I say smart because it’s the first handlebar we’ve seen that both utilises the lightness of carbon fibre with the stength and impact-resistance of Kelvar. We’ve got a clutch of riser bars in for testing at the moment and the Ragley really stands out with its unique finish, adding it to any bike will cause a colour clash unlike any seen since the days of purple anodising. Fear not if you’re put off this bar only by the colour, an all-black option is available for the less brave.
With the tape measure out the bar comes in at 720mm, and pop it on the scales and it’ll show a weight of less than 200g. Impressive stuff. It’s got 25mm of rise, other options are available including a lofty 38mm, and features an 8 degree backsweep.
The Kevlar wrapping stops short of the ends of the bars, so if you want to trim its width you can do. The centre of the bar is marked with alignment graphics to make setting it up super easy.
So on paper it looks good, incredibly tough but racer light too, but not cheap at £90, though it’s on a par with other similar weight carbon risers. I’m going to stick the Wiser on the Pivot Mach 429 I’m currently testing and see how it rides.
