Bikes and kit get (slightly) cheaper

Cotic’s Hemlock – now a bit cheaperer

The Government’s “yes, it’ll save the world, honest” cut in VAT from 17.5% to 15% comes in to force today, and various purveyors of fine bike parts have responded already.

We only brought you news of Cotic’s revised 2009 Hemlock frame the other day, but already it’s got cheaper. The VAT cut has brought the price down to £980 for the frame, or £1,055 if you want both sets of rocker arms to play around with travel settings.

Fellow Brit brand On-One has taken its usual pragmatic approach – rather than rounding things off to nice numbers, it’s just pressed a couple of buttons in its online bike parts Sale-O-Matic to change all the prices at once and ended up with all sorts of interesting numbers. The freshly-landed Ti 29er frame now comes in at £1,184.26.

Out in the mainstream, Evans Cycles has changed all its bike prices to reflect the new VAT situation but also announced a blanket 5% reduction on clothing, parts and accessories.
