Despite launching the new Spectral and Lux full-sussers for 2014, Canyon hasn’t taken its eye of its hardtails, and introduces two new models for 2014.
First up is the Grand Canyon CF SL, based on the Grand Canyon CF SLX introduced just a year ago. It’s made from the same mould so it shares the same tube profiles and geometry, it’s just been made from a heavier grade of carbon fibre.
What that difference in carbon means is a lower price, with complete builds starting from just £1,469, rising through to £2,239 for the range-topper. The frame is packed with on-trend details, such as an X12 bolt-thru rear axle, oversized bottom bracket and direct mount front mech. All cables are routed internally, the VCLS stays are designed to offer a small degree of deflection and there’s an impact protection device on the top tube that prevents damage in the event of the handlebars swinging around.
The Grand Canyon CF SL 6.9 at £1,469 offers cracking value
A Fox 32 Float 29 Evolution fork with 100mm suspension travel and CTD (Climb, Trail, Descend) settings, Formula C1 brakes, Mavic Crossride 29 Disc wheels and Continental X-King 2.2in tyres, Shimano SLX 2×10 cranks and Deore XT shifters and front/rear mechs. And despite that heavier carbon fibre, it’s not exactly hefty at a claimed 10.9kg (24.03lb). Talk about race-ready.
