XX and XX World Cup brakes get even lighter
SRAM’s 2012 top-end brakes now even lighter with new HSX rotors
SRAM has given its Avid XX and XX World Cup brakes an update and managed to lower the weight as well as an complete overhaul of the internals to improve braking performance.
Following much feedback from the World Cup circuit and weekend trail riders alike, SRAM has made several changes to its top-end brakes. An updated TaperBore system, new internals and new forged aluminium callipers has helped drop the weight on the XX to 289g, while the XX World Cup goes even lighter, down to just 270g per end.
Other changes to the XX include a new Air-Trap feature, and lighter non-CPS calliper and new forged magnesium lever body, plus new rotors with sizes starting from 140mm and rising to 180mm. The XX World Cup gets a new two-piece forged magnesium calliper and new HSX rotors, available in three sizes.
The new HSX rotors, available on both brakesets, are brand new for 2012. Making use of cross-drilled technology they’re not only lighter but also dissapate heat better, meaning they should maintain high temperatures on long runs as easily. They should also work better in the wet too.
